Gertjan Storm

Gertjan Storm is advising ICIS in the area of science, policy and sustainability, to be continued after termination of the secondment by the ministry of Foreign Affairs from November 2008 to July 2011. He is also an adviser to European Partners for the Environment, a non-governmental organization in Brussels.

Gertjan holds an MSc-degree in macro-economics from the Erasmus University of Rotterdam (1970). He has experience in issues of international co-operation with an emphasis on development co-operation, acquired in assignments in Latin America and Africa, and at the ministry of Foreign Affairs in The Netherlands (with 4 assignments between 1976 and 1998). The most recent responsibility in The Netherlands was deputy director general for international co-operation (1994-1998; acting director general 1994-1995).

Apart from the assignments in The Netherlands, responsibility for development co-operation as ambassador to six countries in West Africa, based in Dakar, can be mentioned (1990-1994),  as well as the assignment as ambassador to a number of East African countries and as permanent representative to UNEP and UN-Habitat, based in Nairobi (1998-2002). An assignment with UNEP in Brussels to cover the liaison with the European Union (2002-2004) and ambassador in Luxemburg (2004-2008) complete the picture.
