Heleen Vreugdenhil

Heleen Vreugdenhil works since November 2010 at ICIS as a researcher on the Deltares project ‘Perspectives in Integrated Water Management in River Deltas’ in which methodology is developed to explore pathways for sustainable river management in a changing environment.
Before coming to ICIS, Heleen did her PhD research at Delft University of Technology at the Policy Analysis group. The PhD was about ‘Pilot Projects in Water Management. Practicing Change and Changing Practice’. In the PhD research she analysed pilot projects from Rijkswaterstaat (the WINN program) and floodplain revitalization projects along the River Rhine in Switzerland, Germany and The Netherlands. She identified different types of pilot projects, their effects to policy and management and diffusion mechanisms.
Heleen obtained her Msc degree at Delft University of Technology in Systems Engineering, Policy Analysis and Management. During her Msc she specialized in water management and sustainable management and did a research project at Lake Naivasha, Kenya. During her PhD she was also involved in the EU project ‘Freude am Fluss’ and the Dutch ‘Leven met Water’ program.
